Samenvatting
After going to work for rancher Shep Horgan (Ernest Borgnine), the well-meaning and amiable Jubal Troop (Glenn Ford) catches the eye of his new employer's unhappy wife, Mae.Though Jubal isn't interested, the attention Mae is giving him angers Pinky (Rod Steiger), Shep's top cowhand and her ex-lover. To undermine Jubal, Pinky tells Shep that the new man is involved with Mae - an accusation that she backs up after being spurned. When the resulting showdown leaves Shep dead, Jubal takes refuge with Naomi, the daughter of a local religious leader. But when Pinky makes his own violent intentions known to Mae, he becomes his own posse's target and leaves Jubal and Naomi free to begin their lives anew.
